The Akko Advot Center
Making Ripples of Impact
"Advot" is Hebrew for ripples.
This reflects our approach to making impact in the remarkable city we call home.
We provide platforms for individuals, groups and communities to share their voices and actions to shape life in the city through social resilience, solidarity and grassroots leadership.
By building bridges that traverse Akko's exceptional human diversity, we aim to establish our city as a model of cooperation for Israel and the world where locals and visitors alike can make the most of its extraordinary potential.
Heritage, Culture, Diversity, Adventure
At 5,000 years old, Akko (Acre) is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited human settlements. More than 3,000 years before the Anglo-Saxons arrived in Great Britain, Akko was a maritime portal between Europe and Asia that attracted people from all over the world seeking trade, shelter, opportunity or a gateway to the Holy Land.
Today the city maintains its proud legacy of diversity being home to Israel's most "mixed" population (60% Jewish, 40% Arab).
Perched on the northern cape of the Bay of Haifa, Akko is surrounded on three sides by the brilliant blues of the Mediterranean Sea at the western edge of the Galilee region. The city's stunning natural beauty, rich history, and fascinating present make it one of the Middle East's most interesting cities. Visit Akko Stories for a taste of the tales Akko has to tell.
The Educators' Kibbutz
Israel's social startup
The Akko Educators' Kibbutz is a cooperative community of teachers, counselors, youth workers and guides living and working together in Akko's inner-city neighborhoods.
The Educators' Kibbutz is part of the social movement Dror Israel which has adopted the egalitarian way of life and action-driven principles of Israel's famous collective agricultural communities and applied them to the urban landscapes of the 21st century. More than a dozen of these Dror Israel urban kibbutzim span the length and breadth of Israel.
The Advot Center is program pioneered by members of the Akko Educators' Kibbutz.
